{"id":28689,"date":"2024-06-21T02:37:23","date_gmt":"2024-06-21T07:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=28689"},"modified":"2024-06-21T02:37:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-21T07:37:27","slug":"faa-investigating-after-southwest-airlines-plane-descended-dangerously-low-on-airport-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=28689","title":{"rendered":"FAA investigating after Southwest Airlines plane descended dangerously low on airport approach"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Business\/wireStory\/faa-ntsb-investigating-unusual-rolling-motion-southwest-airlines-111110161\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Southwest Airlines<\/a>&nbsp;plane descended to a dangerously low altitude as it made its approach to the Oklahoma City Airport just after midnight Thursday, according to the FAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">An automated warning went off from the Minimum Safe Altitude Warning system at 12:05 a.m., prompting an air traffic controller to tell Southwest Airlines Flight 4069 that they had descended to a low altitude, nine miles from the runway at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City, an FAA spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The plane passed over Yukon High School, dangerously low at roughly 625 feet, and at one point had descended to roughly 525 feet, according to FlightRadar24.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/triple-murder-suspect-loose-arkansas-police\/story?id=111253265\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement Thursday night, Southwest said it is in contact with the FAA &#8220;to understand and address any irregularities with the aircraft\u2019s approach to the airport.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees,&#8221; the company&#8217;s statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/faa-investigating-after-southwest-airlines-plane-descended-dangerously\/story?id=111301021\">abcnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a&nbsp;Southwest Airlines&nbsp;plane descended to a dangerously low altitude as it made its approach to the Oklahoma City Airport just after midnight Thursday, according to the FAA.
