Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney\u2002<\/u><\/a>criticized Anthony Fauci\u2002<\/u><\/a>for having a lack of candor in the Oval Office surrounding COVID-19 guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulvaney was asked by NewsNation\u2019s<\/u><\/a> Blake Burman on \u201cThe Hill\u201d whether he ever heard Fauci say there was \u201cno science\u201d behind the social distancing guidelines throughout his time in the White House. He said he never heard that from the chief medical adviser, adding that Fauci\u2019s comments on how there was \u201cno science\u201d behind some of the guidelines makes him \u201cangry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat level of candor was not present in the oval office. He\u2019s being more honest with members of Congress four years after the fact than he was with the President of the United States, and that\u2019s not right,\u201d Mulvaney said on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour job is not to go in and make decisions. Your job is to go in and give the president the information he needs to make a decision. I never saw that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fauci served as the White House\u2019s chief medical adviser during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been criticized by Republicans for his role in the administration\u2019s response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fauci was grilled<\/u><\/a> during a House committee hearing on Monday about the administration\u2019s response to COVID-19, especially concerning six-foot social distancing guidelines and mask mandates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a previous closed-door interview with lawmakers, Fauci said guidance about six-foot social distancing \u201csort of just appeared,\u201d which was a comment that drew criticism from GOP lawmakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt actually came from the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]. The CDC was responsible for those kinds of guidelines for schools, not me,\u201d Fauci said of the comment during the hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt had little to do with me, since I didn\u2019t make the recommendation. And my saying there was no science behind it means there was no clinical trial that proved that. That\u2019s just one of the things that got a little distorted,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
