{"id":27945,"date":"2024-06-02T06:17:29","date_gmt":"2024-06-02T11:17:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27945"},"modified":"2024-06-02T06:17:35","modified_gmt":"2024-06-02T11:17:35","slug":"after-trumps-conviction-supporters-tried-to-doxx-jurors-and-issued-threats-of-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27945","title":{"rendered":"After Trump&#8217;s conviction, supporters tried to doxx jurors and issued threats of violence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">WASHINGTON \u2014 The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/donald-trump-verdict-hush-money-trial-rcna152492\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;34 felony guilty verdicts<\/a>&nbsp;returned against former President Donald Trump on Thursday spurred a wave of violent rhetoric aimed at the prosecutors who secured his conviction, the judge who oversaw the case and the ordinary jurors who unanimously agreed there was no reasonable doubt that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee falsified business records related to hush money payments to a porn star to benefit his 2016 campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Advance Democracy, a nonprofit that conducts public interest research, said there has been a high volume of social media posts containing violent rhetoric targeting New York Judge Juan Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, including a post with Bragg\u2019s purported home address. The group also found posts of the purported addresses of jurors on a fringe internet message board known for pro-Trump content and harassing and violent posts, although it is unclear if any actual jurors had been correctly identified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The posts, which have been reviewed by NBC News, appear on many of the same websites used by Trump supporters to organize for violence ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. These forums were hotbeds of threats inspired by Trump\u2019s lies about the 2020 election, which he lost, and that the voting system was \u201crigged\u201d against him. They now feature new threats echoing Trump\u2019s rhetoric and false claims about the hush money trial, including that the judicial system is now \u201crigged\u201d against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cDox the Jurors. Dox them now,\u201d one user wrote after Trump\u2019s conviction on a website formerly known as \u201cThe Donald,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/-donald-forum-user-convicted-assaulting-officers-jan-6-rcna82675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;which was popular among participants in the Capitol attack<\/a>. (That post appears to have been quickly removed by moderators.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe need to identify each juror. Then make them miserable. Maybe even suicidal,\u201d wrote another user on the same forum. \u201c1,000,000 men (armed) need to go to washington and hang everyone. That\u2019s the only solution,\u201d wrote another user. \u201cThis s&#8212; is out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI hope every juror is doxxed and they pay for what they have done,\u201d another user wrote on Trump\u2019s Truth Social platform Thursday. \u201cMay God strike them dead. We will on November 5th and they will pay!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWar,\u201d read a Telegram post from one chapter of the Proud Boys, the far-right group whose<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/jury-reaches-verdict-proud-boys-seditious-conspiracy-trial-rcna81129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0former chair and three other members were convicted of seditious conspiracy<\/a>\u00a0because of their actions at the Capitol on Jan. 6, just a few months after Trump infamously told the group to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/proud-boys-blame-trump-defendants-prepare-find-fate-sedition-trial-rcna81234\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stand back and stand by<\/a>\u201d during<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/tech-news\/proud-boys-celebrate-after-trump-s-debate-call-out-n1241512\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0a 2020 debate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cNow you understand. To save your nation, you must fight. The time to respond is now. Franco Friday has begun,\u201d another Proud Boys chapter wrote, apparently referring to fascist dictator Francisco Franco of Spain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">One Jan. 6 defendant who already served time in prison for his role in the Capitol attack also weighed in on X, posting a photo of Bragg and a photo of a noose. \u201cJanuary 20, 2025 traitors Get The Rope,\u201d he wrote, referring to the date of the next presidential inauguration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The threats fit into an ongoing pattern. An NBC News&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-trials-attacks-judges-rcna131916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analysis<\/a>&nbsp;of Trump\u2019s Truth Social posts earlier this year showed that he frequently uses the platform as a megaphone to attack people involved in his legal cases \u2014 and some of his supporters have responded. When the FBI searched Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago estate in 2022, a Trump supporter who had been at the Capitol on Jan. 6<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/armed-man-shoots-fbi-cincinnati-building-nail-gun-flees-leading-inters-rcna42669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;sent angry posts about the search and then attacked<\/a>&nbsp;an FBI field office. When Trump made a social media post last June that included former President Barack Obama\u2019s home address,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/jan-6-defendant-arrested-obamas-home-hit-new-felony-charges-rcna139046\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;a Jan. 6 rioter reposted it and then showed up<\/a>&nbsp;at the residence. When Trump was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/trump-indicted-georgia-racketeering-rcna74912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;indicted<\/a>&nbsp;in Georgia in August, his supporters<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/names-addresses-grand-jurors-georgia-trump-indictment-posted-online-rcna100239\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;posted<\/a>&nbsp;the purported names and addresses of members of the grand jury. Special counsel Jack Smith, who is overseeing Trump\u2019s federal election interference case in Washington, was the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/politics-news\/special-counsel-jack-smith-was-targeted-attempted-swatting-christmas-d-rcna132964\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">target of an attempted swatting on Christmas Day<\/a>. So too was U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who will&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/tanya-chutkan-judge-overseeing-trumps-federal-election-interference-ca-rcna132856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oversee that trial<\/a>, if the Supreme Court allows it to go forward (though that could change if Trump wins in November). When Michael Fanone \u2014 the former police officer nearly killed on Jan. 6 by Trump supporters who believed the former president\u2019s lies about the 2020 election \u2014 criticized Trump at a press conference outside the hush money trial earlier this week,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/mother-jan-6-officer-michael-fanone-swatted-called-trump-authoritarian-rcna154467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">his mother was swatted<\/a>. When Trump and conservative media outlets<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/false-right-wing-reports-trump-trial-jury-instructions-fuel-threats-ju-rcna154678\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;spread false information about the jury instructions in the hush money case this week<\/a>, threats against Merchan rolled in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cWe are continuing to see a dangerous erosion of democratic norms,\u201d Daniel J. Jones, president of Advance Democracy, said in a statement to NBC News. \u201cTrump and his allies have been spreading disinformation about the trial, challenging Justice Merchan\u2019s impartiality, and describing the entire process as \u2018rigged\u2019 for weeks.
