{"id":27750,"date":"2024-05-28T03:08:45","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T08:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27750"},"modified":"2024-05-28T03:13:33","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T08:13:33","slug":"tim-scott-pushes-back-against-bidens-insulting-ad-targeting-black-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27750","title":{"rendered":"Tim Scott pushes back against Biden\u2019s \u2018insulting\u2019 ad targeting Black voters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/tim-scott\/\"><u>Tim Scott\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-S.C.) slammed a recent ad from President Biden\u2019s campaign that targets Black voters, calling it \u201cinsulting\u201d Sunday while touting former President Trump\u2019s work for the Black community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union\u201d for his reaction to the ad, Scott said, \u201cWell, here\u2019s what I can tell you, is that under Donald Trump, we were better off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are two things that are driving Black votes back to Donald Trump: jobs and justice. No. 1, under Donald Trump, our wages were going up. Right now, fairness is going down,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ad from the Biden campaign levied a series of attacks against Trump and his treatment of the Black community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump disrespecting Black folk is nothing new. It\u2019s why Trump stood with violent white supremacists, warned of a blood bath if he loses the next election, and, if he\u2019s president again, vowed to be a dictator who wants revenge on his enemies,\u201d the narrator said in the ad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott on Sunday sought to discredit Biden\u2019s record with the Black community by pointing to the president\u2019s past controversial remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut if you\u2019re really concerned about racial justice in America, let\u2019s not forget,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joe-biden\/\"><u>Joe Biden\u2002<\/u><\/a>is the guy that talked about \u2018racial jungles\u2019 as a result of desegregation,\u201d Scott said, in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/biden-said-desegregation-would-create-a-racial-jungle-2019-7\"><u>apparent reference\u2002<\/u><\/a>to a comment made by Biden in 1977 in which he said \u201corderly\u201d racial integration policies would cause his children to \u201cgrow up in a racial jungle.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s not forget the fact that Joe Biden is the president who said, \u2018If you don\u2019t vote for me, you can\u2019t be Black.\u2019 \u2026 An old white dude telling me I can\u2019t be Black if I don\u2019t vote for him? This is the president who said \u2026 the Republican Party wants to put you back in chains,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the 2020 election, Biden told radio host Charlamagne tha God that if he supports Trump,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/499128-biden-tells-charlamagne-tha-god-if-you-dont-support-me-then-you-aint-black\/\"><u>\u201cthen you ain\u2019t Black.\u201d<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott then accused Biden of backing educational segregation without providing evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only person I have seen restraining Black folks economically is the Joe Biden economy. So, I find it quite insulting to suggest that Joe Biden does not have serious concerns, when his own vice president, Kamala Harris, said he supported segregation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CNN anchor Dana Bash pressed Scott if claiming Biden supports segregation is a \u201clittle too far,\u201d to which he argued the Biden administration has \u201chalted the growth of charter schools that provides greater diversity and opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Charter schools are tuition-free public schools that operate as a school of choice and are backed by federal government grants through the Charter Schools Program. The program&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=Where does Charter Schools Program,support high-quality charter schools.\"><u>has received an allocation of $440 million<\/u><\/a>, the same it has received since 2019 under Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debate has persisted over whether charter schools create more diversity or promote segregation of races. In a study earlier this year from Stanford University and the University of South Carolina, researchers found segregation is \u201ccreeping back up again,\u201d in part due to the rise of charter schools, contrary to Scott\u2019s point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hill reached out to the Biden campaign for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent polls have shown the incumbent losing support among Black voters, a crucial demographic for his reelection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One poll from the New York Times\/Siena College\/Philadelphia Inquirer,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4661153-joe-biden-donald-trump-polls-wisconsin-pennsylvania-nevada-arizona-georgia-michigan\/\"><u>released earlier<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;this month, found Biden leading Trump among Black voters, 63 percent to 23 percent. This is a significant decrease from the 87 percent of Black voters who voted for Biden in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scott, who has suspended his own GOP presidential bid, has been floated as one of Trump\u2019s potential picks for vice president. He has appeared with the former president on the campaign trail in recent months and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/elections2024-ssg.ddhq.io\/news\/tim-scott-set-to-appear-at-event-with-major-gop-donors\/\"><u>is expected to appear<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;next month at an event alongside several political mega-donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4687310-tim-scott-pushes-back-against-bidens-insulting-ad-targeting-black-voters\/.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4687310-tim-scott-pushes-back-against-bidens-insulting-ad-targeting-black-voters\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.&nbsp;Tim Scott\u2002(R-S.C.) slammed a recent ad from President Biden\u2019s campaign that targets Black voters, calling it \u201cinsulting\u201d Sunday while touting former President Trump\u2019s work for the Black community.
