made public<\/a> by fellow Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Johnson \u201chas not lived up to a single one\u201d of the seven tenets he announced when he was elected speaker last October. <\/p>\n\n\n\nJohnson\u2019s tenure \u201cis defined by one self-serving characteristic: When given a choice between advancing Republican priorities or allying with Democrats to preserve his own personal power, Johnson regularly chooses to ally himself with Democrats,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The House leadership responded to Greene\u2019s proposal with a motion to dismiss the resolution. The final vote was 359 in favor (196 Republicans and 163 Democrats) to 43 opposed, saving Johnson\u2019s speakership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Only 11 Republicans and 32 Democrats voted to support Greene\u2019s resolution, indirectly proving Greene\u2019s point that the speaker is aligned with the \u201cuniparty\u201d in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the things Greene and Massie \u2013 who backed her proposal \u2013 blamed Johnson for was the expulsion of Congressman George Santos in December. His seat was taken over by a Democrat in a special election. Johnson counted on Democrats to pass the omnibus government funding bill in March and the $61 billion funding package for Ukraine in April; on both occasions, the majority of House Republicans voted against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBy passing the Democrats\u2019 agenda and handcuffing Republicans\u2019 ability to influence legislation, our elected Republican Speaker Mike Johnson has aided and abetted the Democrats and the Biden administration in destroying our country,\u201d Greene added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bills that Johnson worked to pass funded all of President Joe Biden and the Democrats\u2019 agenda, Greene argued, including the \u201cdeadly border invasion,\u201d the \u201cenergy-killing Green New Deal climate agenda,\u201d the \u201cweaponized\u201d FBI and the Department of Justice, the \u201ctrans agenda on kids,\u201d continued full term abortions, and the \u201cfueling of foreign forever wars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Greene\u2019s resolution called Johnson\u2019s excuses for these actions \u201cpathetic, weak, and unacceptable,\u201d noting that even with a razor-thin majority in the House, the GOP still has the power of the purse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Johnson also trampled his previous record as a defender of civil liberties to vote against requiring a warrant for FISA spying on Americans, Greene said, and funded the Democrats\u2019 \u201cwitch hunt\u201d against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
