{"id":27031,"date":"2024-05-09T04:59:19","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T09:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27031"},"modified":"2024-05-09T04:59:27","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T09:59:27","slug":"biden-mocks-trump-over-failed-foxconn-project-in-wisconsin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=27031","title":{"rendered":"Biden mocks Trump over failed Foxconn project in Wisconsin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">President Biden declared Wednesday that the Trump administration\u2019s much-touted efforts to bring a Foxconn facility to Wisconsin were nothing more than a \u201ccon,\u201d contrasting the failed project with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4649913-biden-tout-microsoft-investment-wisconsin\/\"><u>new investment<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in the state from Microsoft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Biden traveled to Racine, Wis., to announce Microsoft would invest $3.3 billion to build a new artificial intelligence data center at the same site of the Foxconn project that did not develop as promised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Biden invoked former President Trump\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/economy\/trump-comes-wisconsin-foxconn-groundbreaking-walker-protesters-tow\"><u>visit to Wisconsin in 2018<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in which he predicted the Foxconn campus would be the \u201ceighth wonder of the world\u201d and used a golden shovel for the ceremonial groundbreaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAre you kidding me? Look what happened,\u201d Biden said. \u201cThey dug a hole with those golden shovels, and then they fell into it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey did shovel some dirt,\u201d the president continued. \u201cOne hundred homes were bulldozed. They wasted hundreds of millions of dollars of your state and local tax dollars to promise a project that never happened. Foxconn turned out to be just that, a con. Go figure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Technology giant Foxconn announced in 2017 it had planned to invest $10 billion in a facility that would create thousands of jobs. The project was hailed as a major win for the Trump administration at the time but never materialized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The investment&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/04\/21\/foxconn-mostly-abandons-10-billion-wisconsin-project-touted-by-trump.html\"><u>was eventually scaled back<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to less than $700 million, and the number of jobs created from the project was slashed from 13,000 to roughly 1,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Microsoft&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/ap\/ap-u-s-news\/microsoft-looks-to-buy-50m-foxconn-parcel-in-wisconsin\/\"><u>bought the land<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;originally slated for the the Foxconn facility in April 2023 for $50 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The White House said the Microsoft project is expected to create 2,300 union construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Wednesday marked Biden\u2019s fourth visit to Wisconsin of the year, underscoring its electoral importance. He won the state in 2020 by fewer than 21,000 votes, and polls show another close race in the Badger State this November between the incumbent and Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">An&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/elections2024.thehill.com\/wisconsin\/biden-trump-wisconsin\/\"><u>average of polls<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;from The Hill\/Decision Desk HQ&nbsp;shows Trump leading Biden by 3 percentage points in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joe-biden\/\"><u>Joe Biden\u2002<\/u><\/a>is trying to save face in Racine County as Wisconsinites feel the pain of Bidenomics,\u201d Republican National Committee Chair&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/michael-whatley\/\"><u>Michael Whatley\u2002<\/u><\/a>said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cManufacturing has&nbsp;stalled, family farms are&nbsp;shuttering, and costs are up for everything from&nbsp;electricity&nbsp;and&nbsp;gas&nbsp;to&nbsp;food&nbsp;and&nbsp;housing,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s no wonder why Biden is losing in&nbsp;Wisconsin&nbsp;and battleground states across the country: his policies have failed and people want&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>back in office.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4651574-joe-biden-donald-trump-foxxconn-site-wisconsin-microsoft-investment\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Biden declared Wednesday that the Trump administration\u2019s much-touted efforts to bring a Foxconn facility to Wisconsin were nothing more than a \u201ccon,\u201d contrasting the failed project with a&nbsp;new investment&nbsp;in the state from Microsoft.
