Kim Godwin\u2002<\/u><\/a>is leaving as the head of ABC News, she announced to employees on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Godwin is retiring after what she called a time of \u201cconsiderable reflection,\u201d she wrote in a note obtained by The Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another note to staff, Debra O\u2019Connell, a longtime executive at Disney, which owns ABC News, said she would be taking over for Godwin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnyone who\u2019s passionate about what we do knows there\u2019s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision,\u201d Godwin wrote in her note. \u201cI\u2019m certain it\u2019s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what\u2019s most important for me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Godwin\u2019s ouster comes amid a slew of headlines surrounding her leadership style and management in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those reports prompted a statement<\/u><\/a> from the The National Association of Black Journalists saying it was concerned about an effort to \u201cundermine the leadership of the first Black woman to take the helm of a global news organization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Godwin took over as the president of ABC News in 2021 and has overseen the broadcast network during a turbulent time that has included major job reductions<\/u><\/a> and the ouster of two \u201cGood Morning America 3\u201d anchors after a romantic relationship between them was revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her ouster comes as many media and business observers have speculated about the future of ABC, after Disney CEO Bob Iger\u2002<\/u><\/a>suggested<\/u><\/a> last summer the company needed to get out of the linear television business and could be open to the possibility of selling the broadcasting giant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
