{"id":26666,"date":"2024-04-30T03:38:25","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T08:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=26666"},"modified":"2024-04-30T03:38:30","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T08:38:30","slug":"3-police-officers-shot-in-louisiana-in-fatal-standoff-with-gunman-officials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=26666","title":{"rendered":"3 police officers shot in Louisiana in fatal standoff with gunman: Officials"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The gunman was wanted for a previous attempted murder and armed robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Three&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/alerts\/police-shootings\"><u>police officers<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;were wounded in a fatal standoff with a gunman in Louisiana on Sunday, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Kenner Police were called to the 700 block of Farm Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. local time after two people were shot outside of a residence, according to a statement from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto and Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The residence belonged to a family member of Michael Lathers, 31, who was wanted for an attempted murder and armed robbery that occurred earlier in the week in Kenner, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In a standoff with Lathers, three Kenner police officers were wounded and Lathers was fatally shot&nbsp;by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy, according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;Multiple attempts were made to contact Lathers to open negotiations, but all efforts were unsuccessful,&#8221; Lopinto and Conley said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The wounded officers were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Lathers was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/3-police-officers-shot-louisiana-fatal-standoff-gunman\/story?id=109732769\">Abcnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The gunman was wanted for a previous attempted murder and armed robbery.
