{"id":25495,"date":"2024-03-31T04:21:25","date_gmt":"2024-03-31T09:21:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=25495"},"modified":"2024-03-31T04:21:30","modified_gmt":"2024-03-31T09:21:30","slug":"data-from-73m-current-former-customers-leaked-on-dark-web-att-confirms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=25495","title":{"rendered":"Data from 73M current, former customers leaked on dark web, AT&amp;T confirms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Information for some 73 million current and former&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/alerts\/att\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AT&amp;T<\/a>&nbsp;customers was recently posted on the dark web in a data breach, the telecommunications company confirmed on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;AT&amp;T has determined that AT&amp;T data-specific fields were contained in a data set released on the dark web approximately two weeks ago,&#8221; the Dallas-based company said in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/about.att.com\/story\/2024\/addressing-data-set-released-on-dark-web.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/unitedhealth-group-recovering-significant-cyberattack-ceo\/story?id=108278122\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">AT&amp;T said the affected data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier and impacts approximately 7.6 million current customers and approximately 65.4 million former account holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The data set included personal information such as Social Security numbers, AT&amp;T said. It is unclear if the data originated from AT&amp;T or one of its vendors, the company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;AT&amp;T has launched a robust investigation supported by internal and external cybersecurity experts,&#8221; the company said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In a note to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.att.com\/support\/article\/my-account\/000101995\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">customers<\/a>, the company said that a &#8220;number&#8221; of AT&amp;T passcodes have been compromised and that it reset the passcodes for all impacted current customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;In addition, we will be communicating with current and former account holders with compromised sensitive personal information,&#8221; the company said.<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/microsoft-russian-state-backed-hack-update\/story?id=107927553\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The compromised data does not appear to contain personal financial information or call history, AT&amp;T said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">TechCrunch&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/03\/30\/att-reset-account-passcodes-customer-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>&nbsp;that it had informed AT&amp;T on Monday that the leaked data contained encrypted passcodes that were easy to decipher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This is not the first time the company has experienced issues this year.
