{"id":25039,"date":"2024-03-20T02:52:18","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T07:52:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=25039"},"modified":"2024-03-20T02:52:21","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T07:52:21","slug":"alaska-airlines-planes-windshield-cracks-while-landing-in-latest-drama-for-a-boeing-jet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=25039","title":{"rendered":"Alaska Airlines plane\u2019s windshield cracks while landing in latest drama for a Boeing jet"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The inner windshield of an Alaska Airlines plane cracked as it landed in Oregon in the<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/15\/us-news\/boeing-737-loses-external-panel-mid-flight\/\"><u>\u2002latest issue involving a Boeing jet.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The flight from Washington DC was descending at the Portland International Airport on Sunday when crew members noticed a small crack on the inner windshield, airline officials told The Post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe crew followed their checklists and the aircraft continued safely to its destination as scheduled,\u201d the airline said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The airline\u2019s Boeing 737-800s have five layers in their windscreens, with an outer pane, three inner layers, and an inner pane, the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIf an inner pane cracks, the other pane and layers can maintain cabin pressure,\u201d airline officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">No injuries were reported among the 159 passengers and six crew members onboard, the airline noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A maintenance team has since inspected and repaired the windshield, and the plane is back in service, airline officials said. Boeing declined to comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The cracked windshield is just the latest issue to befall a Boeing plane in more than two months \u2014 ever since a door plug on another Alaska Airlines flight&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/01\/06\/news\/alaskan-airlines-flight-makes-emergency-landing-in-portland-after-window-blows-out-mid-flight\/\"><u>shockingly blew off mid-air<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and was forced to make an emergency landing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the aftermath, the Federal Aviation Administration found<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/12\/us-news\/faa-audit-of-boeings-737-production-found-mechanics-using-hotel-card-and-dish-soap-as-makeshift-tools-report\/\"><u>\u2002dozens of issues\u2002<\/u><\/a>involving Boeing\u2019s 737 MAX jet production process, including mechanics at one of its key suppliers using a hotel key card and dish soap as makeshift tools to test compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It also found that Boeing failed 33 out of 89 product audits \u2014 a review of specific aspects in the production line \u2014 with a total of 97 counts of alleged noncompliance, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/11\/us\/politics\/faa-audit-boeing-737-max.html\"><u>The New York Times.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The issues will now&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/16\/us-news\/boeing-737-max-engine-issue-will-take-up-to-a-year-to-fix\/\"><u>take more than a year to fix<\/u><\/a>, Boeing officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But Boeing has also been plagued by issues on its other lines, including the 737-800s like the one that landed in Portland on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Just a few days before, on Friday, another 737-800&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/15\/us-news\/boeing-737-loses-external-panel-mid-flight\/\"><u>lost its own external panel<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;mid-flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The United Airlines flight landed safely at Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport in Oregon on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">There was never any indication of a problem and no emergency was ever declared during the flight, which had 139 passengers and 6 crew members on board, according to United.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">But once the plane reached the gate, an external panel was found to be missing, halting operations at the airport while a runway safety check was conducted, airport director Amber Judd told The Post in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Airport staff searched for the missing panel on the airport premises but were unable to locate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cAfter finding no debris on the airfield, normal operations at MFR resumed a few minutes later,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">United Airlines said it plans a \u201cthorough examination\u201d of the 25-year-old plane and will \u201cperform all the needed repairs before it returns to service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/19\/us-news\/alaska-airlines-boeing-737s-windshield-cracks-while-landing\/\">Nypost<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inner windshield of an Alaska Airlines plane cracked as it landed in Oregon in the\u2002latest issue involving a Boeing jet.
