They invited it,\u201d Britt said in a \u201cFox News Sunday\u201d interview with Shannon Bream.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe truth is, and the media knows that they\u2019re not covering it, that human trafficking has gone up under President Biden,\u201d she continued. \u201cIf you look back under 2018, it was a $500 million industry, human trafficking by the drug cartels. It is now a $13 billion dollar industry. Shannon, the drug cartels are winning under this. This is a story of what is happening now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Britt\u2019s response&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/4518129-britt-goes-after-dithering-diminished-biden-in-state-of-the-union-rebuttal\/\"><u>painted a dark picture<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;for the future of America, warning of violence under Democratic leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Later Thursday, the Biden campaign hit back,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/4518062-white-house-hits-katie-britt-state-union-response\/\"><u>going after Britt<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;for her record on immigration policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLast month, Senator Britt sided against President Biden, the Border Patrol Union, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce by opposing the toughest bipartisan border deal in modern history \u2014 instead voting with fentanyl traffickers,\u201d White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The bipartisan border security bill passed the Senate last month, without Britt\u2019s support, but fell apart in the House.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4522243-katie-britt-defends-human-trafficking-story-in-state-of-the-union-response-amid-backlash\/\">Thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.&nbsp;Katie Britt\u2002(R-Ala.) defended herself on Sunday after she used a story of sexual violence from&nbsp;two decades ago in Mexico&nbsp;as an attack on&nbsp;President Biden\u2002in her State of the Union response.
