{"id":24589,"date":"2024-03-07T02:29:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T08:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=24589"},"modified":"2024-03-07T02:29:46","modified_gmt":"2024-03-07T08:29:46","slug":"openai-fires-back-after-musk-lawsuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=24589","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI fires back after Musk lawsuit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI fired back at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/elon-musk\/\"><u>Elon Musk\u2002<\/u><\/a>on Tuesday, after the billionaire sued the ChatGPT developer last week for allegedly straying from its original mission to develop artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The artificial intelligence (AI) company said in a blog post, accompanied by several emails between Musk and members of OpenAI, that Musk supported turning the company into a for-profit entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">However, Musk, who helped found OpenAI, \u201cwanted us to merge with Tesla\u201d or \u201cwanted full control\u201d of the new for-profit entity, according to OpenAI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe couldn\u2019t agree to terms on a for-profit with Elon because we felt it was against the mission for any individual to have absolute control over OpenAI,\u201d the company wrote Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cElon soon chose to leave OpenAI, saying that our probability of success was 0, and that he planned to build an AGI [artificial general intelligence] competitor within Tesla,\u201d it added. \u201cWhen he left in late February 2018, he told our team he was supportive of us finding our own path to raising billions of dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Musk, who now owns a separate AI company called xAI, sued OpenAI, CEO&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/sam-altman\/\"><u>Sam Altman\u2002<\/u><\/a>and co-founder Greg Brockman on Friday, alleging they set the company\u2019s founding agreement \u201caflame\u201d in partnering with Microsoft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The billionaire claimed that he, Altman and Brockman agreed in founding OpenAI in 2015 that it would be a nonprofit that developed AGI for the benefit of humanity and would remain open source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Musk alleged that OpenAI is now developing and refining AGI \u201cto maximize profits for Microsoft\u201d and has opted not to provide details about the internal design of its latest AI model in order \u201cto serve the proprietary commercial interests of Microsoft.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft,\u201d the lawsuit says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The company said in Tuesday\u2019s blog post that it plans to \u201cmove to dismiss all of Elon\u2019s claims.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re sad that it\u2019s come to this with someone whom we\u2019ve deeply admired\u2014someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress towards OpenAI\u2019s mission without him,\u201d it wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/4512540-openai-fires-back-musk-lawsuit\/\">Thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OpenAI fired back at&nbsp;Elon Musk\u2002on Tuesday, after the billionaire sued the ChatGPT developer last week for allegedly straying from its original mission to develop artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity.
