Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan <\/a>vowed Friday that his new company will cover the former President Trump\u2019s legal woes differently than the media has thus far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will stop with this charade that this is a legal story,\u201d Hasan said Friday evening in an interview on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cCuomo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLike you and I both worked in cable for many years, you longer than me,\u201d Hasan told host Chris Cuomo. \u201cThere\u2019s some great legal analysts, some great lawyers and prosecutors on air, many of them are friends of mine. But I think it\u2019s a mistake to frame this story as a legal story.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hasan\u2019s new company<\/a>, \u201cZeteo\u201d will cater to the progressives and seek \u201canswers for the questions that really matter, while always striving for the truth,\u201d according to a Substack website for the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out<\/a> the Supreme Court\u2019s recent decision to pick up the issue of whether former President Trump <\/a>can be criminally prosecuted for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, calling it a \u201cpolitical story\u201d rather than a legal one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a Supreme Court, which has a conservative supermajority, which has perhaps two stolen seats, has three members of the court appointed by the guy who they\u2019re gonna be ruling on and one of them, his wife was involved in the coup attempt.\u201d Hasan said, appearing to be referring to the wife of Justice Clarence Thomas,<\/a> Ginny Thomas, who has faced scrutiny for a possible<\/a> role in the lead-up to the Jan. 6, 2021 riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is a political story,\u201d he added. \u201cThese are politicians in robes. These are not disinterested jurists. So, that\u2019s one way I would cover this story differently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The progressive commentator also recently told The Washington Post that he has raised $4 million for his venture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is one of the biggest news years of our lives, and that\u2019s why I wanted to do something like this,\u201d Hasan told the Post. \u201cI\u2019m not a businessman. I\u2019m not an entrepreneur. I\u2019ve never done anything like this before. It\u2019s a huge gamble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His new venture, he said Friday, will allow him to be his \u201cown boss,\u201d<\/a> which he said was a major perk after announcing last year he was stepping down<\/a> from his role at MSNBC. His decision was linked to the news organization\u2019s decision last year<\/a> to cancel his late-night opinion talk show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
