SEATTLE \u2013 The number of shootings on U.S. interstates is up across the country and a big reason for this is aggressive driving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even with more attention coming to this issue, it isn\u2019t an easy fix according to the police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“You have the recipe for some real, real challenges,” said Chris Loftis with Washington State Patrol. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Washington State Patrol is seeing more\u00a0shootings on highways\u00a0<\/a>– and they\u2019re hard to prevent.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Highway shootings are on the rise across the United States. (Fox News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Highways are dangerous enough without anything like this,” Loftis said. “It makes it tougher to patrol and respond. And then it makes it tougher to investigate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Law enforcement attribute many of these shootings to aggressive driving<\/a> and the reaction from surrounding drivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n “When you have situations where peoples\u2019 behavior is changing about how they\u2019re operating their vehicles,” Loftis said. “And then peoples\u2019 behavior changing in how they respond to aggressiveness. You overlay that with more people, more cars.”\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the last year, areas in Washington State, California, Wisconsin, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Florida have reported an increase in highway shootings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n States from coast to coast are reporting more highway shootings since the start of 2023 (Fox News)<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The numbers are just too high,” said David Reich with the National Road Safety Foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
