A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after setting himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC on Sunday, the city\u2019s emergency services said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for DC Fire and EMS, told reporters that the man has been hospitalized with \u201ccritical life-threatening injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Independent journalist Talia Jane said she obtained the footage of the incident, which shows that the man was wearing a military uniform and described himself as \u201can active duty member of the US Air Force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Jane, the man said \u201cI will no longer be complicit in genocide\u201d and shouted \u201cFree Palestine.\u201d The journalist posted a graphic photo<\/a> of a man in fatigues engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CNN, which also reviewed the video, said that the man identified himself as Aaron Bushnell. US Air Force spokeswoman Rose Riley later confirmed to CNN that \u201can active duty airman was involved in today\u2019s incident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Multiple pro-Palestine protests were held outside Israeli missions abroad after Israel launched its military campaign against the militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The protesters have been demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting the staggering civilian death toll. In early December, a man set himself on fire in front of the Israeli consulate in Atlanta, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pro-Israeli demonstrations were also held in Washington and other cities, where people mourned the Israelis killed by Hamas and demanded the release of hostages taken by the group during its attack on October 7, which triggered the ongoing war. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Nearly 30,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the start of the conflict, according to the local Hamas-run authorities.
