{"id":23878,"date":"2024-02-17T03:35:51","date_gmt":"2024-02-17T09:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=23878"},"modified":"2024-02-17T03:35:59","modified_gmt":"2024-02-17T09:35:59","slug":"u-s-fda-approves-astrazenecas-tagrisso-chemo-combo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=23878","title":{"rendered":"U.S. FDA approves AstraZeneca&#8217;s Tagrisso-chemo combo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Feb 16 (Reuters) &#8211; A combination of AstraZeneca&#8217;s<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/AZN.L\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(AZN.L), opens new tab<\/a>&nbsp;blockbuster cancer drug Tagrisso with chemotherapy to treat a type of lung cancer has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the company said in a statement on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The drug would be used to treat adults with a type of advanced lung cancer, AstraZeneca said, adding that the FDA&#8217;s approval was based on trials which extended median progression-free survival (PFS) by nearly nine months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The term PFS refers to how long a patient lives without the disease getting worse after treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Phase 3 trials, called FLAURA2, showed that when adding chemotherapy to Tagrisso, the risk of disease progression or death was reduced by 38% when compared to Tagrisso alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The approval from the regulator comes after it had granted the drug priority&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/astrazenecas-tagrisso-chemo-combo-given-priority-review-us-2023-10-16\/\">review<\/a>&nbsp;in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Lung cancer drug Tagrisso&#8217;s sales\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/astrazeneca-sees-higher-annual-revenue-profit-2024-02-08\/\">grew<\/a>\u00a09% in 2023, it is currently approved as monotherapy in more than 100 countries including in the U.S., European Union, China and Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/us-fda-approves-astrazenecas-tagrisso-chemo-combo-2024-02-17\/\">reuters<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feb 16 (Reuters) &#8211; A combination of AstraZeneca&#8217;s(AZN.L), opens new tab&nbsp;blockbuster cancer drug Tagrisso with chemotherapy to treat a type of lung cancer has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the company said in a statement on Friday.
