{"id":23517,"date":"2024-02-06T01:50:03","date_gmt":"2024-02-06T07:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=23517"},"modified":"2024-02-06T01:50:08","modified_gmt":"2024-02-06T07:50:08","slug":"viral-videos-of-tesla-drivers-using-vr-headsets-prompt-us-government-alarm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=23517","title":{"rendered":"Viral videos of Tesla drivers using VR headsets prompt US government alarm"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) &#8211; U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Monday said human drivers must pay attention at all times after videos emerged of people driving Teslas while wearing what appeared to be Apple&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/AAPL.O\"><u>(AAPL.O), opens new tab<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;recently released Vision Pro headset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Buttigieg responded on X to a video that had more than 24 million views of a Tesla&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/companies\/TSLA.O\"><u>(TSLA.O), opens new tab<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;driver who appeared to be gesturing with his hands to manipulate a virtual reality field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;Reminder\u2014ALL advanced driver assistance systems available today require the human driver to be in control and fully engaged in the driving task at all times,&#8221; Buttigieg said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/vision-pro-headset-is-apples-next-mac-tv-combined-2024-02-03\/\"><u>Apple&#8217;s Vision Pro<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;was released last week and blends three-dimensional digital content with a view of the outside world. Apple, which says people should never use it while operating a moving vehicle, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Tesla did not immediately reply to a request for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Buttigieg has made similar comments previously about the use of Tesla Autopilot.
