{"id":21948,"date":"2023-12-28T03:46:42","date_gmt":"2023-12-28T09:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21948"},"modified":"2023-12-28T03:46:49","modified_gmt":"2023-12-28T09:46:49","slug":"un-resolution-on-gaza-hampered-by-issues-important-to-us-cessation-of-hostilities-and-aid-monitors-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21948","title":{"rendered":"UN resolution on Gaza hampered by issues important to US: cessation of hostilities and aid monitors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">DENVER (AP) \u2014 Police said Tuesday they are investigating incidents directed at Colorado Supreme Court justices and providing extra patrols around their homes in Denver following&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-insurrection-14th-amendment-2024-colorado-d16dd8f354eeaf450558378c65fd79a2\"><u>the court\u2019s decision to remove former President Donald Trump<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;from the state\u2019s presidential primary ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Denver Police Department declined in an email to provide details about its investigations, citing safety and privacy considerations and because they are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The department \u201cis currently investigating incidents directed at Colorado Supreme Court justices and will continue working with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners to thoroughly investigate any reports of threats or harassment,\u201d the email said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Officers responded to the home of one justice on Thursday evening, but police said it appeared to be a \u201choax report.\u201d That case is also still being investigated police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a><\/a>The FBI said it is working with local law enforcement on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a><\/a>\u201cWe will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation,\u201d a spokesperson for the Denver\u2019s FBI office, Vikki Migoya, said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In a 4-3 decision last week, Colorado\u2019s highest court overturned a ruling from a district court judge who found that Trump incited an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, but had said he could not be barred from the ballot because it was unclear that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-insurrection-14th-amendment-2024-colorado-79373b5043976588b599fc00ede049e8\"><u>U.S. Constitution\u2019s insurrection clause<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;was intended to cover the presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The state\u2019s highest court didn\u2019t agree, siding with attorneys for six Colorado Republican and unaffiliated voters who argued that it was nonsensical to imagine that the framers of the amendment, fearful of former confederates returning to power, would bar them from low-level offices but not the highest one in the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The court stayed its decision until Jan. 4, or until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the case.
