It was signed by California Gov.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/gavin-newsom\/\">Gavin Newsom&nbsp;<\/a>(D) back in September and would have barred the concealed carrying of guns in locations like public parks and playgrounds, churches, banks and zoos.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Carney, who granted a preliminary injunction blocking the law, wrote that it was \u201csweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court,\u201d according to The Associated Press (AP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">As the law is blocked, the court case against it will still continue. The ruling benefits the California Rifle and Pistol Association, the organization that sued to block the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">President of the California Rifle and Pistol Association Chuck Michel said according to the law, gun permit holders \u201cwouldn\u2019t be able to drive across town without passing through a prohibited area and breaking the law,\u201d per the AP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">California State Attorney General&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/rob-bonta\/\">Rob Bonta&nbsp;<\/a>(D) said his office is going to appeal the decision, according to the AP. Newsom said he will continue to work towards stricter gun measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDefying common sense, this ruling outrageously calls California\u2019s data-backed gun safety efforts \u2018repugnant.\u2019 What is repugnant is this ruling, which greenlights the proliferation of guns in our hospitals, libraries, and children\u2019s playgrounds \u2014 spaces, which should be safe for all,\u201d Newsom said in a statement Wednesday evening, per the AP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/4372718-california-law-that-would-ban-firearms-in-most-public-places-blocked\/\">thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A California law that would ban firearms in most public places was&nbsp;blocked by a federal judge&nbsp;Wednesday.
