The US<\/u><\/a> Senate is unlikely to have time to conclude a deal to provide $106 billion in additional funding to Ukraine<\/u><\/a> and Israel in exchange for changes to\u2002<\/u><\/a>US<\/u><\/a> immigration laws this week and will go into New Year’s recess until January 9. This was reported by Fox News Digital<\/u><\/a> , citing sources close to the negotiation process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the GOP<\/u><\/a> has been trying for weeks to negotiate an agreement that would include stricter border security policies and a split in aid to Ukraine and Israel. \u201cRepublicans are demanding a good border bill, and it doesn\u2019t look like they\u2019re going to get one,\u201d said one US Senate source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another source said an agreement on border security is unlikely to be reached this week, but if there is one, it will be \u201cvery small.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. James Lankford, who is leading Republicans in talks aimed at tying $61.4 billion in Ukraine funding to changes to the U.S. asylum system, also doubts the parties will reach an agreement by the end of the week. \u201cWe won’t be able to get [the deal] done by Thursday or Friday of this week. We are still working on the text… and there are big questions that are not resolved,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
