{"id":21142,"date":"2023-12-08T02:08:36","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T08:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21142"},"modified":"2023-12-08T02:08:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-08T08:08:40","slug":"mike-johnson-takes-biden-to-task-over-student-loan-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21142","title":{"rendered":"Mike Johnson Takes Biden to Task Over Student Loan Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Republican House Speaker&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/mike-johnson\"><u>Mike Johnson<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;said President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/joe-biden\"><u>Joe Biden<\/u><\/a>&#8216;s latest effort to forgive billions of dollars worth of student loans was &#8220;wrong&#8221; and that &#8220;borrowers should be responsible for paying off their debts,&#8221; according to a post on X, formerly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/topic\/twitter\"><u>Twitter<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Wednesday, the Education Department said that it had approved a total of about $5 billion student debt to more than 80,000 borrowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The latest announcement brought the Biden administration&#8217;s total debt cancellation to borrowers to $132 billion for over 3.6 million Americans, the White House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Johnson said on Wednesday evening that the move did not &#8220;cancel&#8221; or &#8220;forgive&#8221; student loan debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">&#8220;The Biden Administration&#8217;s latest student debt transfer does not &#8216;cancel&#8217; or &#8216;forgive&#8217; a penny of student loan debt,&#8221; Johnson wrote on X. &#8220;Instead, President Biden is once again asking hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for the loans of well-off graduates. This is not only unfair, it is wrong.
