{"id":21096,"date":"2023-12-07T03:40:39","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T09:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21096"},"modified":"2023-12-07T03:40:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T09:40:44","slug":"house-votes-to-block-biden-ev-rule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=21096","title":{"rendered":"House votes to block Biden EV rule"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The House on Wednesday voted in favor of blocking a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/joe-biden\/\"><u>Biden\u2002<\/u><\/a>administration rule that\u2019s expected to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/3944851-two-thirds-of-car-sales-could-be-electric-by-2032-under-new-biden-proposal\/\"><u>shift car sales in the U.S. significantly toward electric vehicles.\u2002<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The vote was 221-197.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The rule in question could move car sales as far as to reach two-thirds electric by 2032.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The bill approved by House Republicans on Wednesday would also bar the Environmental Protection Agency from pursuing any rules that result in limited availability of gas-powered cars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Despite its House passage, the legislation is not expected to gain traction in the Democratically-controlled Senate. The White House has already threatened to veto it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In its veto threat statement, The White House defended the rule as being \u201cprojected to save Americans $12,000 over the lifetime of a new light-duty vehicle by accelerating adoption of technologies that reduce fuel and maintenance costs alongside pollution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It also lamented other provisions of the GOP bill that it said would \u201ccatastrophically impair EPA\u2019s ability to issue automotive regulations that protect public health, save consumers money, strengthen American energy security, and protect American investments in the vehicle technologies of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Republicans have criticized the EPA\u2019s rule, saying that it is forcing a shift to electric vehicles that consumers do not want.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Bill sponsor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/tim-walberg\/\"><u>Tim Walberg\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Mich.) said during a Wednesday press conference that \u201cthis standard\u2026is unattainable, it\u2019s unaffordable and in fact it\u2019s unrealistic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt takes away what we\u2019ve always thought of as one of the most important principles of Americanism, and that\u2019s choice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Members of the GOP are also trying to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/4335620-republicans-press-epa-funding-bill-bar-biden-electric-vehicle-rule\/\"><u>push for language to block the rule\u2002<\/u><\/a>in an upcoming appropriations bill, with at least one member saying they would&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/4345200-house-republican-lisa-mcclain-funding-bill-vote-electric-vehicles\/\"><u>consider voting against a funding bill<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;if it does not contain such a provision.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/energy-environment\/4346021-house-votes-to-block-biden-ev-rule\/\">Thehill<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House on Wednesday voted in favor of blocking a&nbsp;Biden\u2002administration rule that\u2019s expected to&nbsp;shift car sales in the U.S. significantly toward electric vehicles.\u2002 The vote was 221-197.
