The White House on Monday launched accounts on the social media platform Threads for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, less than a year out from the 2024 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accounts on Meta’s competitor to X<\/a> were also created for the White House, LaCasaBlanca (“The White House” in Spanish), first lady Jill Biden and second gentleman Doug Emhoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are committed to meeting people where they are,\u201d a White House official said in a statement. \u201cThreads is an additional way we can communicate with the American people about this administration\u2019s historic actions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Biden wrote his first post<\/a> on Threads on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou\u2019re hearing from me today from a new platform, but my message to you hasn\u2019t changed,\u201d he wrote in part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The White House last week condemned\u2002<\/a>tech executive Elon Musk\u2019s post on X that supported an antisemitic claim. The White House official said Monday that plans to launch the Threads accounts had been underway for several weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Biden campaign has navigated tensions around the president’s use of social media. Last year, Biden\u2002signed a law<\/a> banning TikTok on government devices, and his campaign has since weighed the political risks of disengaging from platforms that reach millions of users with his administration’s own messaging about the security concerns with certain platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
