{"id":19938,"date":"2023-11-07T01:36:26","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T07:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=19938"},"modified":"2023-11-07T01:44:13","modified_gmt":"2023-11-07T07:44:13","slug":"boy-14-dies-after-suffering-cardiac-arrest-while-running-5k-at-florida-high-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=19938","title":{"rendered":"Boy, 14, dies after suffering cardiac arrest while running 5K at Florida high school"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A 14-year-old boy running a 5K in Florida collapsed and died after suffering cardiac arrest on Saturday, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/teen-suffers-cardiac-arrest-dies-while-running-5k-in-miramar\/3151994\/\">NBC South Florida<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Police said in a statement that they found the teen experiencing cardiac arrest when they arrived at the Junior Reserve Officers\u2019 Training Corps (JROTC) 5K at Everglades High School in Miramar, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After the teen arrived at Memorial Miramar Hospital, doctors pronounced him dead. Police haven\u2019t publicly identified the student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">However, according to a GoFundMe, the student was Knox MacEwen, who participated in the JROTC program at Western High School in Davie, Florida, and volunteered at his church in the kids\u2019 ministry. His mother, Julie, recently had cancer, and the family is still grappling with the lingering physical and financial effects of her illness, the GoFundMe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe family has been through the unimaginable,\u201d the GoFundMe said, adding the funds raised will \u201callow Knox\u2019s parents, Kevin and Julie, to take time off work to grieve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Western High School announced that grief counselors would be available for students in need of support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am saddened to share tragic news impacting our Wildcat community. One of our JROTC students passed away this morning after being transported to the hospital.
