NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 The eighth installment of the \u201cMission: Impossible\u201d franchise has been postponed a year, signaling a new wave of release schedule juggling for Hollywood studios as the actors strike<\/u><\/a> surpasses three months of work stoppage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paramount Pictures on Monday shifted the release date of the next \u201cMission: Impossible\u201d from June 28 to May 23, 2025. Production on the follow-up to Christopher McQuarrie\u2019s \u201cMission: Impossible \u2014 Dead Reckoning Part One\u201d<\/u><\/a> was paused in July while Tom Cruise and company embarked on an international promotion blitz for \u201cDead Reckoning.\u201d (The sequel had been titled \u201cMission: Impossible \u2014 Dead Reckoning Part Two\u201d but is now simply listed currently as \u201cMission: Impossible.\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDead Reckoning\u201d ultimately grossed $567.5 million worldwide, falling shy of 2018 installment \u201cFallout\u201d ($791.7 million globally) and the heady highs of Cruise\u2019s summer 2022 blockbuster \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d<\/u><\/a> ($1.5 billion). The 163-minute-long action thriller, drew some of the best reviews of the 27-year-old movie franchise, but was quickly eclipsed by the box-office juggernauts of \u201cBarbie\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer.\u201d<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Hollywood\u2019s labor turmoil has continued, it\u2019s increasingly upended release plans not just for movies this fall that want to wait until their stars can promote them ( like \u201cDune: Part Two,\u201d<\/u><\/a> postponed to March), but some of next year\u2019s top big-screen attractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A string of Marvel movies have previously shifted back, as did the third \u201cVenom\u201d film. \u201cSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,\u201d has been delayed indefinitely after being dated for March 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paramount also announced Monday that \u201cA Quiet Place: Day One,\u201d a prequel to the post-apocalyptic horror series starring Lupita Nyong\u2019o, will have its release pushed from March to when \u201cDead Reckoning\u201d had been scheduled to open, on June 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Negotiations between the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the studios are\u00a0scheduled to resume Tuesday.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
