NRA spokesperson Billy McLaughlin told FOX News Digital that the Biden Administration\u2019s \u201cpro-criminal policies drive more people to buy guns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NRA\u2019s chief goal was to take on one of Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s social media posts in which she pushed Biden\u2019s claim that he beat the NRA once and will do it again. Biden was referencing the passage of the 1994 \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban, when he claims to have defeated the NRA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McLaughlin responded, \u201cVice President Harris should learn her history before going on social media. She\u2019s referring to Biden\u2019s 1994 vote for the \u2018assault weapons\u2019 ban as his big so-called victory. Yet, thanks to the NRA, the ban expired in 2004. And, AR-15 ownership surged from 850,000 then to 25 million today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also noted that the \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban did not achieve the anticipated drop in crime, saying, \u201cEven President Clinton\u2019s DOJ conceded the ban was ineffective.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breitbart News pointed to a Department of Justice\u2019s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) report released just as the \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban was set to expire. The authors of the study found that the ban could not be credited with any reduction in crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Washington Times quoted University of Pennsylvania professor Christopher Koper, author of the NIJ report, saying at the time, \u201cWe cannot clearly credit the ban with any of the nation\u2019s recent drop in gun violence. And, indeed, there has been no discernible reduction in the lethality and injuriousness of gun violence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McLaughlin suggested the Biden Administration\u2019s gun control agenda is \u201c[persecuting] law-abiding gun owners\u201d while those same gun owners are \u201cunder siege from criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
