{"id":15677,"date":"2023-07-19T05:06:15","date_gmt":"2023-07-19T10:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=15677"},"modified":"2023-07-19T05:06:18","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T10:06:18","slug":"trump-plan-to-expand-presidents-power-would-lead-to-purely-partisan-government-employees-former-aide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=15677","title":{"rendered":"Trump plan to expand president\u2019s power would lead to \u2018purely partisan\u2019 government employees: former aide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former White House communications director&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/alyssa-farah\/\"><u>Alyssa Farah\u2002<\/u><\/a>Griffin said Monday&nbsp;that former&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>plans to expand presidential power over federal agencies would lead to \u201cpurely partisan\u201d government workers. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Griffin spoke on CNN\u2019s \u201cThe Lead with Jake Tapper\u201d about a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/17\/us\/politics\/trump-plans-2025.html\"><u>New York Times report<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;that laid out Trump\u2019s plans to consolidate executive power, including making it easier to replace government employees seen as opposed to his agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd I\u2019ve warned about this,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cI can confirm everything that\u2019s in that New York Times piece, because most of it was stuff that the former president wanted to do in his first term. The aides, like myself and others, talked him out of, and at the time, the argument was, \u2018This is too unpopular with the public, you need to focus on your reelection.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBut one that stands out to me, and I\u2019ve kind of been raising alarm bells about, is this effort to basically eliminate the civil service, or basically make it so it\u2019s so much easier to fire career subject matter experts,\u201d she added. \u201cThat is an effort to make the government purely partisan and staffed with loyalists who are going to carry out his agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also pointed to New Yorker staff writer Susan Glasser\u2019s comparison of Trump to a dinosaur in the \u201cJurassic Park\u201d movie franchise who learned to open a door, saying Trump \u201ccould be more dangerous in a second term because he understands how the machines of government actually work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Times report, citing interviews with those close to Trump and a review of his campaign promises, said the former president plans to move independent agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Trade Commission further under the White House\u2019s jurisdiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump also wants to restart the process of \u201cimpounding\u201d funds, meaning he can refuse to use money allocated by Congress for programs that he does not like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/4104496-tim-scott-super-pac-rolling-out-40-million-ad-campaign-across-iowa-new-hampshire-south-carolina\/\"><strong>Tim Scott super PAC rolling out $40 million ad campaign across Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4104486-the-memo-trump-indictment-steals-headlines-from-gop-rivals\/\"><strong>The Memo: Trump indictment steals headlines from GOP rivals\u2002<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Times noted that Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.donaldjtrump.com\/agenda47\/agenda47-preventing-world-war-iii\"><u>also wants to overhaul<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;the intelligence agencies, the State Department and the defense agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Trump&nbsp;chief of staff&nbsp;John Kelly&nbsp;said in the Times piece that a second term for the ex-president would result in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/4102033-ex-trump-chief-of-staff-kelly-says-second-term-would-be-nonstop-gunfight\/\"><u>a \u201cnonstop gunfight\u201d<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;with Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt would be chaotic,\u201d Kelly said.&nbsp;\u201cIt just simply would be chaotic, because he\u2019d continually be trying to exceed his authority but the sycophants would go along with it.
