{"id":14285,"date":"2023-06-22T03:39:04","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T08:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=14285"},"modified":"2023-06-22T03:39:11","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T08:39:11","slug":"hollywood-writers-at-rally-say-theyll-win-as-strike-reaches-50-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=14285","title":{"rendered":"Hollywood writers at rally say they\u2019ll win as strike reaches 50 days"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 Fifty days into a strike with no end in sight, about 1,000&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hollywood-writers-strike-contract-expired-9a6882128a38e75041974f00f9344f53\">Hollywood writers and their supporters<\/a>&nbsp;marched and rallied in Los Angeles for a new contract with studios that includes payment guarantees and job security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers at the Writers Guild of America\u2019s WGA Strong March and Rally for a Fair Contract on Wednesday emphasized the broad support for their cause shown by other Hollywood unions \u2014 including actors in their own contract negotiations \u2014 and labor at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all in it together, we\u2019re all fighting the same fight, for a sustainable job in the face of corporate greed,\u201d Adam Conover, a writer and a member of the guild\u2019s board and its negotiating committee, told a crowd at the end of the march at the La Brea Tar Pits. \u201cWe are going to win because they need us. Writers are the ones who stare at a blank page. We are the ones who invent the characters, tell the stories and write the jokes that their audiences love. They\u2019d have nothing without us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the group representing studios in negotiations, have not resumed since breaking off hours before the writers\u2019 contract expired on May 1.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/writers-strike-film-tv-streaming-29940516d1a0650cd87021d104ddb8a1\">The strike began<\/a>&nbsp;a day later, with more and more productions shutting down as it has gone on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A similar deadline now looms for actors, whose union, SAG-AFTRA, is negotiating with the AMPTP on a contract that expires June 30. Members voted overwhelmingly to authorize guild leaders to call a strike if no deal is reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Streaming and its ripple effects are at the center of the dispute.
