Elton John has denounced what he called the \u201cgrowing swell of anger and homophobia\u201d in the U.S., saying the country is moving \u201cbackwards.\u201d He also singled out Florida, describing recent anti-grooming laws passed in the state as \u201cdisgraceful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The \u201cRocketman\u201d singer held forth on his views of America in an interview this week with the Radio Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all going pear-shaped in America,\u201d John said, according to a New York Times report<\/a>. \u201cWe seem to be going backwards. And that spreads. It\u2019s like a virus that the L.G.B.T.Q.+ movement is suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t like it at all,\u201d he added, referring to the growing number of anti-grooming laws being passed in states including Florida, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and North and South Dakota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s a growing swell of anger and homophobia that\u2019s around America.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n John told the Radio Times he might eventually be open to doing a residency after his farewell tour ends, \u201cbut not in America.\u201d His representatives said the reason was to spend more time with his husband and children, who live in Britain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last year, Elton John teamed up<\/a> with President Joe Biden for a White House concert \u201ccelebrate the unifying and healing power of music.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
