(AP) \u2014 Actor Treat Williams, whose nearly 50-year career included starring roles in the TV series \u201cEverwood\u201d and the movie \u201cHair,\u201d died Monday after a motorcycle crash in Vermont, state police said. He was 71.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly before 5 p.m., a Honda SUV was turning left into a parking lot when it collided with Williams\u2019 motorcycle in the town of Dorset, according to a&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/vtstatepolice.blogspot.com\/2023\/06\/shaftsbury-barracks-fatal-motor-vehicle.html\">statement<\/a>&nbsp;from Vermont State Police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWilliams was unable to avoid a collision and was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York, where he was pronounced dead,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams was wearing a helmet, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SUV\u2019s driver received minor injuries and wasn\u2019t hospitalized. He had signaled the turn and wasn\u2019t immediately detained although the crash investigation continued, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams, whose full name was Richard Treat Williams, lived in Manchester Center in southern Vermont, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His agent, Barry McPherson, also confirmed the actor\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented,\u201d McPherson told People magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe was an actor\u2019s actor,\u201d McPherson said. \u201cFilmmakers loved him. He\u2019s been the heart of the Hollywood since the late 1970s.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Connecticut-born Williams made his movie debut in 1975 as a police officer in the movie \u201cDeadly Hero\u201d and went on to appear in more than 120 TV and film roles, including the movies \u201cThe Eagle Has Landed,\u201d \u201cPrince of the City\u201d and \u201cOnce Upon a Time in America.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his role as hippie leader George Berger in the 1979 movie version of the hit musical \u201cHair.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He appeared in dozens of television shows but was perhaps best known for his starring role from 2002 to 2006 in \u201cEverwood\u201d as Dr. Andrew Brown, a widowed brain surgeon from Manhattan who moves with his two children to the Colorado mountain town of that name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams also had a recurring role as Lenny Ross on the TV show \u201cBlue Bloods.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams\u2019 stage appearances included Broadway shows, including \u201cGrease\u201d and \u201cPirates of Penzance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Colleagues and friends praised Williams as kind, generous and creative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTreat and I spent months in Rome filming \u201cOnce Upon a Time in America,\u2019\u201d actor James Woods tweeted. \u201cIt can be pretty lonely on the road during a long shoot, but his resilient good cheer and sense of humor was a Godsend. I really loved him and am devastated that he\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking with Treat Williams in Mamet\u2019s \u201cSpeed the Plow\u201d at Williamstown in \u201991 was the start of great friendship,\u201d tweeted writer, director and producer Justine Williams. \u201cDamn it, damn it. Treat, you were the best. Love you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTreat Williams was a passionate, adventurous, creative man,\u201d actor Wendell Pierce tweeted. \u201cIn a short period of time, he quickly befriended me &amp; his adventurous spirit was infectious. We worked on just 1 film together but occasionally connected over the years. Kind and generous with advice and support.
