{"id":12014,"date":"2023-05-20T03:26:56","date_gmt":"2023-05-20T08:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=12014"},"modified":"2023-05-20T03:27:01","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T08:27:01","slug":"san-francisco-judge-slams-mayor-london-breed-da-brooke-jenkins-over-record-breaking-drug-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=12014","title":{"rendered":"San Francisco judge slams Mayor London Breed, DA Brooke Jenkins over record-breaking drug deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A longtime San Francisco superior court judge slammed the blighted city\u2019s mayor and district attorney for \u201cfailing on drugs\u201d amid a 41 percent uptick in fatal overdoses so far this year.<br>\u201cMayor London Breed and her handpicked district attorney, Brooke Jenkins, have been busy launching another\u00a0war on drugs, eliminating access to\u00a0treatment\u00a0and\u00a0services, and\u00a0complaining\u00a0about a San Francisco crime narrative\u00a0that they now own,\u201d wrote now-retired Superior Court Judge Ellen Chaitin, in an\u00a0SFGate.com op-ed.<br>Chaitin served as a San Francisco Superior Court judge for two decades before she retired in 2012.<br>She pointed to statistics released\u2002by the San Francisco Chronicle, which reported 200 accidental drug overdose deaths in the first three months of 2023 \u2013 a 41% surge from the same time last year.<br>\u201c[A] record 200 human beings died from overdoses, as city leaders responsible for solving the problem are talking tough yet gutting the programs proven to actually save lives and treat addiction,\u201d Chaitin wrote in the Thursday screed.<br>The longtime jurist said the city officials were \u201cso focused on\u00a0scapegoating\u00a0[former San Francisco District Attorney Chesa] Boudin for the city\u2019s long-standing problems that they played right into the conservative agenda.\u201dShe said Breed and Jenkins promised the recall \u201cwould solve the city\u2019s public safety crises.\u201d<br>\u201cInstead, as fatal overdoses skyrocket,\u00a0Breed\u00a0and Jenkins are begging\u00a0state\u00a0and\u00a0federal\u00a0authorities for help with a problem they are not up for solving.\u201d<br>San Francisco has made headlines in recent months for reports of rampant drug use, crime, homeless and organized retail theft.<br>Public Policy Institute of California statistics show homelessness declined in San Francisco last year.
