Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) suggested Carlson was an \u201cinfluencer\u201d who does not swing votes on national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), a Marine Reserve colonel, argued that the majority of Republicans support U.S. aid for Ukraine, despite Carlson\u2019s arguments against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s more about what my constituents are saying to me than different individual personalities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even the staunchest GOP foreign policy hawks remained mostly diplomatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) \u2014 one of Carlson\u2019s targets, said, \u201c[We] probably agree on many things, but I think we have a different worldview, addng, \u201cMy worldview is not dependent on what somebody says on cable TV.\u201d
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said, \u201cWhether you agree with him or not, he was one of the few people out there that every day was sort of challenging orthodoxy \u2014 you didn\u2019t like the show, you don\u2019t have to watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cThere\u2019s things I don\u2019t agree with him on. There\u2019s things that I find that he says that are edgy and interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), a Marine veteran, was cited as saying, \u201cI presume he\u2019ll still have a massive platform.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There was one apparent exception, however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Navy SEAL veteran Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) told the outlet sarcastically, \u201cI\u2019ve shed many tears over Tucker Carlson losing the show \u2014 many, many tears.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carlson once called Crenshaw \u201ceyepatch McCain\u201d related to his hawkish views on Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) defended Carlson, saying he had a \u201cvery distinctive point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe has a very strong following,\u201d he said, \u201c[I] bet that we\u2019ll continue to hear his voice \u2014 and I think it\u2019s an important voice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
